University of Sussex offers Syrian refugees English language tuition
28 September 2015
A new scholarship has been created by the University of Sussex for Syrian refugees. The Sussex Refugee Scholarship will provide English language tuition to 50 Syrian refugees to help them progress into higher education.
The scholarships will be offered to Syrians newly arrived in the UK between the ages of 18 and 25 and worth up to £10,000, paying for the full cost of the course. £100 will also contribute to weekly living costs. Professor Michael Farthing, the vice-chancellor, said the University wants to "remove the language barrier to enable them to access higher education in the UK. We want to do what we can to help young people displaced from Syria whose education has been destroyed or disrupted.”
The English courses will last 5, 10, 16 or 28 weeks dependent on the IELTS level the student is at upon entry. Are you interested in learning more about the University of Sussex? Arrange a free consultation today.
