Number of undergraduates from non-EU countries jumps by more than 100,000 since 2004

A report from Universities UK has revealed that the number of international students studying at UK universities has risen by over 100,000 since 2004.
The proportion of non-EU students at UK universities rose by 9% to 13.5% between 2004 and 2013, representing a rise of 107,065 students in total. China represented the largest number of international students choosing to study in the UK, closely followed by Africa, India and the Middle East.
The Higher Education Statistics Agency figures for the years 2004-5 and 2013-14 highlight the shifting demographics of students in the UK. Non-EU students taking a first degree rose from 79,415 to 137,450 in ten years, while postgraduate students rose by 44,950 to 124,960 in total.
