SI-UK and ASIS Successfully Lobby UK Government on behalf of International Students

8 January 2015

There was good news for international students today as Government Chancellor George Osbourne blocked potential plans for those coming to the UK to study having to return home after graduation and apply for another visa.

Home secretary Teresa May had raised the potential for the policy to make it into the forthcoming Conservative General Election Manifesto, but Osbourne wasted no time in vetoing the plans. ASIS and its university recruiting partner, SI-UK Education Council, recently lobbied former Foreign Secretary William Hague, while ASIS Principle David Boddy met Osbourne in early January to discuss the issue. Boddy commented: “We have been putting pressure on the UK government to recognise the enormous financial and social contribution the international student community makes to Britain. Most quality graduates will easily qualify for a starting salary over the threshold.”

The UK government expect up to 600,000 international students to be studying in the UK by 2020. If you are interested in learning more, arrange a free consultation with SI-UK today.
